640 E Main St
Juniper is an absolutely incredible family owned farm to table restaurant in downtown Ridge Spring. I love how Juniper works with local farms such as Yon Family Farms, Watstonia Farms and others to source locally raised and grown ingredients. Everything tastes garden fresh and made with. love.
You can dine in or get take out . We have had amazing experiences with both. When we went for dinner on a. Saturday evening, there were four delicious specials to choose from. I got the creamy shrimp with peas and pancetta, and a house salad with no croutons. I also ordered a glass of Chardonnay. While we waited for our meal, our server brought out appetizers to try – pasta salad and fried green tomatoes ( which to my delight were gluten free. She. also brought out bread, (GF bread. for me too) with house made strawberry cinnamon butter, it was delicious. All of of the food was fantastic and even though we were full, the dessert menu for the evening sounded too good to pass up.
Dessert offered several gluten free options, Beignets, Creme Brûlée, Bananas Foster. I chose the Creme Brûlée and it was easily one of the best I have had. I loved that the custard was not overly sweet and the sugar topping was perfectly browned.
We have also gotten take out for dinner made to order. Juniper was excellent with gluten free accommodation for take out as well. Pictured below is corn meal crusted pork chops with mashed sweet potatoes & kale, pan fried southern catfish with adluh grits & summer squash & Juniper’s delicious black eyed pea salad.
Juniper also has special menus and events for occasions such as Thanksgiving and Mother’s Day and they have have even made me gluten free pies upon request.
Our family will definitely be regulars at Juniper, the food is spectacular, the customer service fantastic, and the entire staff goes above and beyond to accommodate safe dining for those who need to eat gluten free.
I recommend that you follow Juniper on Facebook to keep with with their daily specials and events.
Blue Canoe Cafe
618 E Main St Ridge
The Blue Canoe Cafe is my boy’s favorite place for wings and fries. It is a very cool spot that has transformed a bank into a fun place to grab a burger, salad, pizza, wings, ice cream and more. They also have specialty coffees, breakfast sandwiches and muffins. You can dine in, or go through the drive through. The gluten free food options that I have seen on the menu are salads, most of the wings, and they also have a cauliflower crust pizza ( which I have not tried yet). The wings are on point. We have gotten, buffalo, hot honey, and garlic Parmesan, each of these are. are gluten free and they are so good. They also make some of the best homemade ranch I have ever tasted so be sure to ask for extra! I usually get a side of steamed broccoli with my wings. I also really loved the house salad with grilled chicken.
For dessert, there are many ice cream flavors. The peach milkshake is one of our favorites! The specialty coffee drinks at the Blue Canoe Cafe are also delicious and I love that they offer a plant milk substitute for those that cannot have dairy.
104 Town Square
Miguelitos serves up very good authentic Mexican food. They have a very large menu. In my opinion, your best bet here for gluten free is to order things that you know will be gluten free such as fajitas or tacos with corn tortillas, you definitely want to be careful with sauces and deep fried items. When in doubt always ask the restaurant. We ordered chicken tacos, chorizo & papas tacos, carne asada tacos, rice, beans, & guacamole. I love that the street tacos are. served with plenty of cilantro and fresh onion just like the ones. I had when I lived in San Diego. We also ordered queso because it is my son’s favorite and he gave it two. very enthusiastic thumbs up. We have gotten take out a couple times and really enjoyed it.
Rikard’s Roadside Bar-B-Que
905 West Main Street
I am always happy to find a good BBQ place, and Rikards in Ridge Spring has a great menu with BBQ and yummy home cooked sides such as fresh cooked vegetables, and salads. You can dine in or get take out. We tried the ribs, chicken, brisket, and pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, green beans and Cole slaw. The meats were gluten free and the sauces are gluten free as are most of the vegetables. All of it was delicious! The brisket and pulled pork were the favorites. We also. ordered Mac & cheese. which is NOT gluten free but I wanted to mention it because my boys consider themselves mac & cheese connoisseurs and they were big fans! We are looking forward to taking our family members who are big BBQ lovers to Rikards when they visit!
